The Carpentry Certificate gives the student hands-on experience in the actual construction of a home. The student will be involved in all phases from planning and estimating to foundation, framing, and finishing work.
All of the classroom and building experiences are conducted by instructors who are experienced in general contracting and teaching. While the primary emphasis of this certificate is residential construction, certain processes found in commercial building are also covered.
This specialization is delivered face-to-face and may contain online components.
Assessment: Basic reading, basic math, and measurements. Call (435) 750-3188 to schedule an appointment. Need a review? Get a sneak peek at the Assessment Center or enroll directly into the Academic Learning Center by calling (435) 753-6780.
Please note: A composite ACT score of 17 or a composite SAT score of 1210 can waive assessment requirements if taken no more than four years prior to enrollment.
Building Construction projects begin the end of August. Registration prior to this date is encouraged, but not required.
Repair, remodeling, construction, and planning for construction operations are being conducted in almost all communities; therefore, the opportunities for employment are innumerable from semi-skilled helpers to expert craftsmen in all phases of residential and commercial construction. The primary sources of employment are found with building contractors, construction material suppliers, architectural and civil engineering firms, and self-employment.
