Students enrolled in this certificate learn mechanical drafting software, 3D modeling software, and mechanical design techniques to great depth, making it ideal for careers in manufacturing.
Training includes knowledge of cams, gears, jigs, fixtures, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. 3D modeling is also heavily emphasized with opportunity provided to obtain national certification exams with industry leading software Solidworks, AutoCAD, and Autodesk Inventor.
Students who choose this certificate are not allowed the flexibility of learning other areas of the drafting field. This certificate can be earned in conjunction with other certificates if electives are carefully planned.
This certificate is designed to provide students the necessary skills to gain employment and succeed in the mechanical drafting field.
Students are expected to work, and excel in a self-paced learning environment; individualized help is given when needed.

As a mechanical drafter, students may find employment in companies and firms of all sizes. Designers and engineers all require entry-level and advanced drafters to help produce their 3D models and drawings. Manufacturing companies hire mechanical drafters for drawings, 3D models, and design work on their products and tooling. Mechanical 3D modeling and drafting is a career that can often lead to positions in design, quality assurance, analysis, or research and development. It is an ideal career for those wanting to work in a related field as they work toward an engineering degree. The manufacturing market is expanding and this growth is expected to continue into the future.
