Practical Nursing Drive Through Graduation
On Thursday, June 4, the Practical Nursing program held it’s annual graduation, drive through style! It may be a strange concept to have students and their families remain in their cars while one student comes to the school at a time, but it was successful in giving our students the graduation they deserved.
The idea originated from a sister school of ours, Davis Technical College, as they had decided to do a drive through graduation for their students. After hearing about their successful event, our Practical Nursing program agreed that this would be the perfect way to give our students a way to celebrate their accomplishments.
Each student was allowed to come over to a booth set up in the south parking lot of the Logan Campus – Main. Our Faculty members wore masks as our students received their diplomas and had their picture taken. Despite the circumstances that made this event unusual, each graduate appeared to be thrilled with the chance to have an actual graduation ceremony.
Yvonne Manning, Department Head for the Practical Nursing program, said “We presented an academic award, a clinical award, and the Florence Nightingale award. We were able to provide the graduates with a flash drive of faculty telling about the recipients of the awards, and also with a video from their student reps that was very well prepared. The graduates seemed pleased to be able to have the time to celebrate their accomplishments, and some commented on how nice it was. We allowed a photo opportunity of them receiving their certificate with their family that they were grateful to have.”
We are pleased to honor so many students for their recent accomplishments, and we are proud of our faculty for coming up with a creative solution to a unique problem. We look forward to hearing about the success of our recent graduates!
