Frederick Quinney Lawson Health Sciences Building Groundbreaking
Bridgerland Technical College officially broke ground for the Frederick Quinney Lawson Health Sciences Building on March 16, 2022. This is the first purpose-built building in the college’s 50-year history. The 75,000 ft2 two-story building is being built on the Logan Campus at the corner of 600 West and 1400 North. It will house high-demand healthcare programs, including dental assisting, medical assisting, nursing assistant, pharmacy technician, phlebotomy, practical and registered nursing.
Brian McBeth, construction manager for Layton Construction Company, explained the building’s location and design with partner Method Studio. He noted the project is anticipated to be complete by the second half of 2023.
Additional remarks about the value of hands-on, technical education were given by:
· Dr. Whitney Collins, Intermountain Healthcare nurse practitioner and BTECH graduate
· Senator Chris Wilson, Utah State Senate
· Dr. David Woolstenhulme, USHE commissioner
· Brandon McBride, Logan Regional Hospital CEO/administrator
· Jonathan Hsu, Frederick Quinney Lawson Foundation board member
President Chad Campbell thanked the many legislators, donors, architects, contractors, industry leaders, community members, faculty, staff, and students who have participated in the process. Focusing on the students’ needs remains the college’s top priority as this project launches.
Following President Campbell’s remarks, Jamie Andrus, the Cache Valley Chamber of Commerce president, conducted the Groundbreaking Ceremony. All attendees were invited to use a traditional shovel to break ground, but mini excavators were also available for digging in the dirt in typical tech college fashion!
