Coronavirus (COVID-19) College Update – March 14

March 14, 2020

As part of the efforts to manage the spread of COVID-19, Governor Herbert and State Superintendent Dickson announced Friday the “soft closure” of all Utah K-12 public school students from school, beginning Monday, March 16th through Friday, March 27th. Spring Break will remain Monday, March 30, through Friday, April 3.

Similarly, all Utah Technical Colleges were directed Saturday by the Board of Trustees, in consultation with the Governor’s Office and State Health Department, to implement a partial closure for the coming two weeks. This means:

  • Monday and Tuesday, March 16th and 17th, will be used as non-student days (high school and adult) for faculty and staff to prepare distance delivered instruction (Canvas, packets, phone calls, conference calls, and other mechanisms). Program faculty will contact all students to explain how this applies to their specific programs of study.
  • All students do not attend Monday and Tuesday; attendance requirements are being temporarily suspended.
  • Wednesday, March 18, the College will suspend most face-to-face instruction for all students until Monday, April 6, and will deliver distance instruction to the fullest extent possible.

Bridgerland Technical College expects its facilities will be open throughout the two-week period, programs will be staffed for students needing access to labs or technology, and most student services will be available (i.e., College assessment (outside proctoring suspended), student registration, student success advisors, bookstore, etc.).

Anyone who has a fever (100.4°F/38°C or higher), cough or have trouble breathing, should not enter the College, and should seek medical care (calling ahead to avoid unnecessary contact).

Bridgerland Technical College, acting in accordance with guidance from the State of Utah, will continue to be responsive to directives given by the Bear River Health Department (https://brhd.org/coronavirus) and decisions made by the local school districts. The College will keep an open line of communication as more information is available.  Please regularly check your email, our social media streams, and the College website (www.btech.edu).

We encourage you to be patient, safe, healthy, and kind as we navigate this unique experience.

Additional Updates

In an effort to follow preventative measures and stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the Bridgerland Technical College Cosmetology/Barbering, Master Esthetics and Café services will not be offered through April 6 (Monday). If you have a previously scheduled appointment during the next two weeks, we will be contacting you.
