Eduroam Procedure

Purpose:

The purpose of this procedure is to define the terms and conditions for use of the Eduroam network at Bridgerland Technical College. The Eduroam network is designed to provide secure and seamless wireless internet access to students, faculty, staff, and guests of participating educational institutions.

Scope:

Eduroam is a shared network allowing educational institutions to have their users authenticate through the institution’s systems regardless of the campus or institution they are physically at. The Eduroam network is available to all registered students, faculty, and staff of Bridgerland Technical College with network accounts. Guests from participating educational institutions may also access the network using their home institution credentials. The Eduroam network supports all wireless-enabled devices that meet the minimum technical requirements. The network is available in all Bridgerland Technical College buildings.

Access:

By accessing the Eduroam network, users agree to the Acceptable Use Policy. They will be prompted to enter their school username and password in USERNAME@institution.edu format (BTech users will be USERNAME@btech.edu). After successful authentication, users will have access to the network.

Security:

The security of the Eduroam network is a top priority for Bridgerland Technical College. The network uses industry-standard encryption protocols to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of all transmitted data. In addition, firewalls and other security measures are in place to protect against unauthorized access and malicious activity. In the event of a security breach, users are required to report the incident to the IS department immediately.

Maintenance and Upgrades:

The Eduroam network at Bridgerland Technical College is regularly maintained to ensure optimal performance and security. Regular maintenance and upgrades may result in temporary disruptions to network access, the IS department will make every effort to minimize the impact on users. In the case of upgrades and/or maintenance, users will be notified in advance of any planned maintenance or upgrades.

Monitoring and Enforcement:

The Eduroam network at Bridgerland Technical College is monitored to ensure compliance with the Acceptable Use Policy. Individuals utilizing the Eduroam network must do so in a way that complies with all college policies, applicable laws and regulations, as well as any contractual agreements. In the event of a violation, users may face consequences ranging from a warning to suspension of network access. Repeat offenders may face more severe consequences, including termination of their network account.

Review and Update:

This Eduroam procedure will be reviewed and updated as needed to ensure it remains relevant and effective. Any changes to the procedure will be communicated to users in advance.
