Giving and Receiving Constructive Feedback (January 2025)
Description
As much as we know we have a lot to learn, let’s be honest: no one likes to hear criticism. It hurts. And because we know it hurts, we likewise bristle at offering criticism. It’s awkward. And we worry we’re causing hurt for someone else. And we have all had experiences where our best-intended coaching blows up in our faces. Since January is the season for performance evaluations for many companies, this workshop is designed to offer insight to prepare us for this period of extensive feedback. We will offer practical tools we can take right into our workplace discussions. There is a way to both give and receive feedback without feeling the need to don a suit of armor.
In this workshop we will learn—
• Finding the right timing
• The balance of holding standards against the need for empathy
• Strategies for follow-up that doesn’t feel like micro-managing
• Approaches for receiving criticism without feeling attacked or defensive
• How to apply our learnings to several real-world scenarios
