Workforce Resources for Utah Business Owners
Self Leadership
Many business owners are unaware of the workforce services, incentives, and cost-saving programs available to them through the Utah Department of Workforce Services (DWS). This class provides a clear, practical overview of how DWS can support employers with recruiting, hiring, training, and retention.
Topics include job postings, workforce development support, on-site recruitments, On-the-Job Training (OJT), internships, apprenticeships, wage reimbursement programs, and available tax credits.
The session is designed specifically for entrepreneurs and small-to-mid-sized businesses looking to grow their workforce, reduce hiring risk, and better understand how to leverage public workforce systems to support their business goals.
Course Instructors
Tony Scantick is a Consolidated Veteran Services Representative (CVSR) with the Utah Department of Workforce Services, serving Northern Utah employers and military community job seekers. He works directly with businesses to connect them with workforce programs, hiring incentives, and talent pipelines they may not otherwise be aware of.
In addition to his role with DWS, Tony is a US Army Veteran and 2 time business founder and operator with hands-on experience in planning, recruiting, operations, scaling and workforce planning. His approach focuses on practical solutions, clear communication, and helping employers understand how to use available resources without unnecessary bureaucracy.
Troy Lamb is a Workforce Development Specialist (WDS) at the Department of Workforce Services with over 15 years of dedicated service.
Troy enjoys working with employers in the Bear River Service Area by providing labor market information, supporting job fairs and networking events, assisting with job postings, and engaging in community outreach.
He also assists employment counselors at DWS in placing job seekers through the On-the-Job Training Program, internships, and apprenticeships.
On a personal note, Troy enjoys spending time with his family, being outdoors, and working on DIY projects.
