Day Trip Adventures
Chesterfield Ghost Town, Soda Springs and Bear River Massacre Site
On this adventure we’ll head north to explore some of southern Idaho’s important heritage sites and locations. You’ll meet Darren Parry, former tribal chair and third-great grandson of Chief Sagwitch, who was wounded but survived the Shoshone Massacre, the largest slaughter of Native American people in U.S. history. He will give us a personal overview of the Massacre site and teach us about the Northwestern Band’s monumental efforts to preserve the area and to create an educational visitors center. We’ll enjoy lunch, check out some highlights of the mining town of Soda Springs and then drive 30 minutes to the ghost town of Chesterfield, an 1880 Mormon Pioneer settlement that was founded along the Oregon Trail. Several buildings have been restored and there are great photo ops. This tour is hosted by Julie Hollist Terrill, director of the Cache Valley Visitors Bureau.

Their international broadcast is seen around the world, and this 300-member volunteer choir has been heralded as “America’s Choir.” Their broadcast initiates in the Conference Center, a beautiful building that holds 21,000 people. We’ll have some free time and a tour of Temple Square with its beautiful gardens, the Tabernacle and Welcome Center before we head for a delicious lunch at America's first Brazilian steakhouse. Bus transportation, tour guide, bottles of water, light snacks, a wonderful lunch and taxes and fees are included.
Tour Guide: Tour Guide Julie Hollist Terrill is a sixth-generation active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her fourth-great grandfather was the architect of the Salt Lake Temple. She is well-acquainted with the history and culture of the region and with the LDS Church.
