Multi-Axis Machining Operations
Advanced Mastercam & 5-Axis Machining (HAAS UMC 500)
Students entering this class should already have a solid understanding of 2D and 3D Mastercam. This course builds advanced programming and setup skills for multi-axis machining, with extensive hands-on time on the HAAS UMC 500 5th-axis mill.
Prerequisite
Solid working knowledge of 2D and 3D Mastercam is required prior to enrollment.
What You’ll Learn
- Machine nomenclature and safe operation practices
- Wireframe and solid model creation in Mastercam
- 2D and 3D toolpath creation and optimization
- Fixturing and tool setup fundamentals
- Using HAAS Wireless Intuitive Probing System (WIPS) to set tool and work offsets
- Safe program prove-out procedures
- Creating planes and toolpathing on multiple planes (3+2)
- Simulation workflows (in addition to week 1 skills)
- 4th-axis rotary motion
- Full 5th-axis motion
- Solid modification
- Automated use of the HAAS WIPS system
Class Size
Class size is limited to six students to ensure adequate time for each student to set up and run the HAAS UMC 500 5th-axis mill.

Cancellation & Refund Policy
Individuals are responsible for canceling their registration should they not be able to attend. Refunds will not be issued for non-attendance. Cancellations received before the first day of class will receive a 100% refund. No refunds will be given on or after the first day of class.
