Sewing Skills Series: Hemming Pants (CE)

Description

If you have entry-level sewing skills and want to learn how to hem a pair of pants, this class is for you! Participants will learn the basics of determining hem depth, marking a hem, and sewing a hem by hand or machine, depending on the type of pants. Each participant must bring a pair of pants (multiple if time allows) to hem in the class.

Refund Policy

Individuals are responsible for canceling their registration should they not be able to attend. Refunds will not be issued for non-attendance. Cancellations received before the first day of class will receive a 100% refund. No refunds, in whole or in part, will be given on or after the first day of class.

Instructor

Maren Lyman  is an award-winning costume designer/artisan. She received her BFA in Costume Design from Utah State University and went on to continue her education with an MFA in Costume Design from San Diego State University. While at SDSU, Maren taught period costume movement and manners, costume sewing labs, and was an active student member of United States Institute of Theatre and Technology (USITT), participating in Design Expo and TECH Expo. She was also a member of the Costume Society of America.

As a technician, Maren has sewn in costume shops from BYU to The LaJolla Playhouse, San Diego’s Old Globe Theatre, Lamb’s Players, and PCPA Theatrefest. Locally, she has designed for Lyric Rep, USU Theatre Dept, Music Theater West, Sky View High School, Green Canyon High School, Smithfield Youth Theatre, and Serendipity Dance Co.

Favorite costume designs include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Guys and Dolls, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang for Music Theatre West; Big River and Shear Madness for the Lyric Rep; and Lysistrata for San Diego State University.

In her “spare” time, Maren enjoys costume history, reading, sewing, fishing, ballroom dancing, tap dancing and Disneyland. She is excited to be part of the BTECH family!
