BTECH Groovy Party a Success!

Bridgerland Technical College wants to thank everyone for making the 50-Year Groovy Party a huge success! Approximately 3,000 people were in attendance showing a positive response from the community.

During the event, representatives from each program shared what BTECH offers in a fun, unique way! For example, Automated Manufacturing had dancing robots, Animal Sciences hosted a petting zoo, and Therapeutic Massage provided a massage booth! The food booths were a big hit, so there was definitely something for everyone!

It was great to see so many smiling faces since the start of the pandemic! Those in attendance mentioned how grateful they were to have something fun they could do with their families in public! We would like to give a big thanks to everyone involved, and we can’t wait to take on similar worthwhile projects in the future!

Bridgerland Technical College June Graduation Celebration

Bridgerland Technical College held graduation ceremonies on June 1st and 2nd at the Logan Campus – West and again on June 3rd at the Brigham City Branch Campus. Programs were assigned times for their graduates to walk across the room and receive diplomas and recognition from faculty and administration. It was clear how much this moment meant to students and their families from the smiles and cheers from all in attendance.

After students received their diplomas, they participated in the tassel toss as a representation of their educational accomplishment. Once finished with the ceremony, family and friends were able to get pictures with their graduates.

This moment was not only meaningful for graduates, but for everyone at Bridgerland Technical College. We feel honored to have been a crucial part in the future careers of program graduates! We wish each of them luck and look forward to seeing their continued success!

We are grateful for the many vendors who participated to make this show happen.

Refreshments were provided by Off Premise Catering

Sound and light for the fashion show provided by Reeverb Entertainment.

PureLight Photos by Robin was there to capture the amazing exhibit pieces for the show.

Logan Westergard – Platinum Performer for Pharmacy Technician

Logan Westergard is the Platinum Performer for Pharmacy Technician. She started taking classes as a Bear River High School student and continued on to finish the Pharmacy Technician program after high school. Logan loves Mexican and Italian food, and in her spare time, enjoys running, playing the piano, reading, and being outdoors. Logan participated in an Olympic sport called the Skeleton while in high school.

Logan’s favorite aspect of the Pharmacy Technician program was the compounding and hospital work. In addition, Logan loved her instructors and learning how pharmacies work.

Logan’s advice to future students is to, “Work hard, but don’t forget to have fun because if you don’t have fun, then what’s the point?” After graduation, Logan plans on working as a pharmacy technician while she goes to school to get her associate’s degree. We wish you the best, Logan!

Fashion Show to Focus on Sustainable Fashion

The upcoming Spring Fashion show presented by the Fashion Merchandising and Development program will be called, “SALVAGED… a sustainable fashion show”. The students selected this theme to bring awareness to one of the biggest concerns and areas of focus in the fashion industry today, sustainability.

Because the fashion industry is one of worlds 2nd leading polluters next to the oil industry, there has to be an effort and plan of action for change. We want to be a part of that in some small way!

By the numbers, the fashion industry accounts for 17-20% of global water pollution, 10% of global carbon emissions, 21 billion tons of garbage per year, and uses 20,000 liters of water to produce only 1kg of cotton .  Those numbers are alarming to say the least not to mention rapidly increasing due to the demands of consumers and pace of fast fashion.

So, for this particular show, Fashion Merchandising and Development students were given the challenge of focusing on recycling, reusing and repurposing existing items. Taking something old or from nothing and turning it into something amazing!

They were only allowed to use items that we thrifted from the last chance Goodwill Outlet, our back storage room full of old fabric, past fashion show designs, recycled materials and trims etc., and donated samples from Roolee.  This posed a great challenge and unlimited opportunities for creativity at the same time.  Students have had to be extremely resourceful and inventive from start to finish.

The same works for investing in quality items that you can wear season after season and year after year.  Not only have our students worked hard to make an impact and bring awareness to this topic but they have created amazing pieces and we can’t wait to showcase them.  Due to Covid event guidelines and restrictions will be hosting this show in private for limited family and friends selected by the student designers and models.  We will also provide a link for people to view the show in the safety of their homes at their convenience.  More details to come.

Georgia Keen – Platinum Performer for Master Esthetics

Georgia Keen is the Platinum Performer for Master Esthetics. Her favorite part about the program was the environment that the teachers and the classroom created.

Georgia completed the program and earned her Master Esthetics license for the state of Utah. She is currently the only master esthetician on staff at the Babe Cave Salon & Spa in Logan, and she is loving it! Her dream job would be to work in a dermatologist’s office.

The advice she has for future students is, “to always be able to learn and try to improve your skills to be the best that you can be.”

Gabrielle Dye – Platinum Performer for Medical Assisting

Ellie Dye is the Platinum Performer for Medical Assisting. She is from Cache Valley and loves to ski and do puzzles in her free time.

Ellie chose Bridgerland Technical College because she was interested in the medical field in high school, so she took a few classes. Ellie fell in love with her instructors and the material being taught, so she decided to continue as an adult student. Her favorite part of the program was the people she met and the education she gained.

Ellie plans to continue working as a medical assistant now that she has graduated. She is also planning on going on a medical humanitarian trip this summer. Once she gets back, she will continue her education at the University of Utah as a pre-med student. She hopes to one day become an orthopedic or trauma surgeon.

Advice Ellie gave to future students was, “Don’t ever quit. Also, be excited for the success of others and find something you are passionate about.” Ellie wanted to thank her instructors for always believing in her and helping her get to where she is today.

Jesse Mindiola – Platinum Performer for Drafting

Jesse Mindiola was chosen as the Platinum Performer for the Drafting program. Jesse took advantage of the free tuition at BTECH by attending the program during high school.

Jesse’s favorite part about the program was learning new computer software like AutoCAD, Autodesk, Inventor, and Chief Architect. Outside of Drafting, Jesse likes to draw, write short stories, and do anything creative. Something else we were able to find out about Jesse is that he has ADHD. He told us, “During my journey, I have been fighting against ADHD and somehow I was still able to finish the program.”

Jesse’s dream job is to be a business owner and start a small business with the skills he has learned at BTECH. Now that he has graduated, Jesse plans to help his family with their business while he transfers his Drafting certificate to Utah State University to continue his education.
