The Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair program prepares students with foundational skills and knowledge for entry-level employment as automotive technicians, with hands-on instruction in brakes; suspension and steering; electrical systems; and maintenance and light repair, along with an emphasis on safety and workplace professionalism.

Objectives

  • Build a job-seeking portfolio and engage in job-seeking activities.
  • Work safely in a shop, properly use automotive tools and find information pertaining to the automotive industry.
  • Safely diagnose and repair: lighting, electrical, and safety automotive systems.
  • Safely maintain and perform light engine repair and engine performance systems (i.e., ignition, fuel, exhaust, and emission systems).
  • Successfully diagnose and safely perform light repairs on vehicle suspension, steering, and tire/wheel systems.
  • Successfully diagnose and safely perform light repair on brake systems (disc, drum, power boosters, and anti-lock electronics).
  • Successfully diagnose and safely perform maintenance on automatic/manual transmissions/transaxles.
  • Successfully diagnose and safely perform maintenance on HVAC systems.
